Reggae originated in Jamaica in the late 60s.
Toots and the Maytals are believed to have first used the term in their 1968 track "do the reggay".
Reggae differs to Ska and Rocksteady, being instantly recognizable from the counterpoint between the bass and drum downbeat, and the offbeat rhythm section. Reggae took over the use of the bass as a percussion instrument from Rocksteady.
We only collect certain genres of reggae, as over the years it has progressed in to many different sub-genres such as: Roots, Digi, Dancehall, & Dub. We only collect early Reggae, Boss Reggae, mod reggae.
